The battle dice enable combat to be resolved efficiently. The command cards form the game engine, driving movement and providing orders for Units. They also serve to create a fog of war effect which add to the realism. Games utilising the C&C system also have a game board that is a hex grid. This grid is divided into three sections: Left flank, Centre, and Right flank. The Austrian Army is the third expansion to the base game - which focuses on confrontations between Napoleons Forces and those of Great Britain. Showcasing engagements from Rolica in August 1808 to Waterloo in June 1815. A copy of Commands & Colors Napoleonics is required to play with this expansion. This expansion includes 20 new scenarios highlighting engagements between the Austrian and French armies. Scenarios range from the battle of Wertingen (October 1805) to the battle of Wagram (July 1809).Also included are:15 double-sided terrain tiles2 Player aids. 1 Austrian national unit reference card, 1 French national unit reference card171 White blocks, representing Austrian forces45 Dark blue blocks, representing additional (to those in the base game) French forcesThis expansion introduces a new mechanic, specific to the Austrian Army: Battalion Mass. This represents the ability of Austrian line infantry to form a solid square in defence of a Cavalry attack. When a player opts to use this ability, a Battalion Mass Counter is placed on the units hex. That unit is then considered to be in square formation. Unlike forming square, this will not result in the player losing a command card. Player Count: 2+Time: 60+ minutesAge: 14+
