Capture the drama and elegance of Gresley’s legendary P2 locomotives with this Hornby OO gauge model of 2004 ‘Mons Meg’. Finished in a striking green livery, this model features sprung metal buffers and NEM tension lock couplings, with a 21-pin socket ready for HM7000 DCC upgrade, making it perfect for both traditional and digital layouts.
Designed by Nigel Gresley for hauling heavy express trains along the challenging Edinburgh–Aberdeen route, only six P2s were built between 1934 and 1936. 2004 was notable for its experimental butterfly valve blastpipe bypass, making each P2 slightly different. All were later rebuilt into conventional Pacifics by Edward Thompson in 1943/44, adding to their unique place in British steam history.
Powered by a 5-pole skew wound motor, the model offers smooth running and reliable performance. Its detailed chassis, cab, and bodywork faithfully reproduce the distinctive wedge-shaped front and design features of the third P2, while the DCC-ready socket allows for future sound and control upgrades using the HM7000 system.
