Pelikan proudly introduces their Art Collection, honoring a selection of remarkable artworks produced throughout the years to showcase Pelikan products, frequently crafted by some of the most distinguished artists of the 20th century.
The Souverän M600’s intricately crafted barrel is created through the refined "Aurora" technique. Beginning with a brass tube that is engraved and guilloched to produce delicate grooves, it achieves a distinctive holographic light-reflecting effect. Ten layers of clear lacquer are applied to form a smooth, polished surface, which is then adorned with a colored motif. A final series of polishing steps enhance the barrel’s signature high-gloss finish, exemplifying the pen’s sophisticated craftsmanship.
The Souverän M600 stands out with its distinctive elegance. Crafted from high-quality resin with self-polishing qualities, its cap, front section, and piston grip offer both durability and a refined finish. The 14-karat two-tone gold nib delivers a smooth, expressive writing experience, while 24-karat gold accents embellish the decorative details, including the signature double rings and Pelikan’s iconic beak-shaped clip.
The Rudi Rother
Rudi Rother (1863-1909), a distinguished German painter and illustrator, earned acclaim by winning the prestigious Pelikan art competition in 1903. This notable piece, created for Pelikan, features a woman writing beside a pelican, embodying the harmonious blend of functionalism and the refined aesthetics characteristic of Jugendstil, Germany’s art nouveau movement. Rother’s masterful fusion of graphic design and fine art significantly influenced commercial art at the turn of the century. Renowned for his elegant pen-and-ink illustrations, he left a lasting impact on advertising design. This fountain pen reflects his vision, showcasing a refined green resin on the section, piston knob, and cap, while the barrel design draws inspiration from the intricate pattern of the woman’s dress.
Art Collection
A vast collection of historical Pelikan advertising posters from the avant-garde and the art nouveau and new objectivity eras takes on a new form here and now: with the unique special edition of Pelikan, the Souverän M600 Pelikan Art Collection Glauco Cambon.
The exhibits of the advertising posters represent the treasury of the Pelikan Art Collection. It is time to share this historical treasure from the Pelikan Archive with the world: Our unique Special Edition pays homage to the poster art of great painters and graphic designers of the avant-garde. Through the newly interpreted motif on the fountain pen, a piece of Pelikan’s history becomes a work of art itself
The symbiosis of art and commerce began around 1900 and opens a new chapter in art history: the so-classed Advertising Art.
On intricately designed posters, branded products have been staged ever since. Great painters and graphic designers of the avant-garde, such as El Lissitzky or Kurt Schwitters, create product advertisements using Pelikan colors for the first time. The resulting treasure of impressive posters and posters from the years 1900 to 1950 represents a remarkable piece of Pelikan’s history.
Fritz Beindorff, the former owner of the Pelikan company and a passionate art collector, is one of the first industrialists to seek collaboration with artists. Already in 1898/99, the art patron initiated the first poster competition.
