We sourced this standout set of Hans Olsen Mid-century Danish dining chairs from a quietly remarkable home in the Sussex Downs — a 1960s architect-designed property with original slate flooring, poured concrete, and soaring light wells. The owners, a retired design professor and ceramicist, had lived there since the early ‘70s, collecting Scandinavian and British modernist pieces over the decades.

Tucked away in their open-plan dining area, the chairs had seen everything from dinner parties to studio critiques, always respected but never restored, which left their warm teak patina beautifully mellowed by time. What drew us in was not just the form — that iconic three-legged construction and Olsen’s clever stackable geometry — but the energy of the space they came from: one deeply rooted in mid-century design values.

We acquired the set directly from the family with care and conversation. These weren’t just chairs — they were part of a creative home. That matters to us, and it’s why we pass them on not just as furniture, but as design with history.
