The Sazerac, the Hurricane, and the absinthe glass of Herbsaint are among the many well-known creations native to New Orleans's longstanding drinking culture. But more than vehicles for alcohol, the cocktails and spirits that complement the city's culinary prowess are each a token of its history. In every bar-side toast or street-corner daiquiri you can find evidence of the people, politics, and convergence of ethnicities that drive the story of the Crescent City.

In Lift Your Spirits: A Celebratory History of Cocktail Culture in New Orleans, Elizabeth M. Williams, founder and director of the Southern Food and Beverage Institute, and world-renowned bartender Chris McMillian illuminate the city's open embrace of alcohol, both in religious and secular life, while delving into the myths, traditions, and personalities that have made New Orleans a destination for imbibing tourists and a mecca for mixologists.

With over 40 cocktail recipes interspersed among nearly three hundred years of history, a sampling of premier cocktail bars in New Orleans, and a glossary of terms to aid drink making and mixing, Lift Your Spirits honors the art of a good drink in the city of good times.

Hybrid polo shirt -- very comfortable
This seems to be a kind of "go anywhere, do anything" shirt that almost succeeds on every count. The fabric is quite thin and very stretchy--the same kind of fabric as a lightweight workout shirt. Definitely not a pique knit polo, or even a sturdy t-shirt knit. The collar is fabric, not ribbed. The quality of construction seems good. The fit is generous. I'm 6'1", 185 lbs, 33" waist and 42R jacket, and this shirt I'm wearing is a Medium. It's still quite loose all over. Could've even perhaps gone with a Small, certainly with this amount of stretch in the material, and it still wouldn't have hugged the body. This shirt design is most comfortable on me with only the top button undone. It can be worn with the top button done up (see pic) but the collar does tend to fold a bit when you wear it like that. The collar fabric isn't quite firm enough to hold its shape. Two buttons undone (see the other pic) is also an option, and that makes for a pretty wide collar. The shirt body is definitely long enough to wear tucked in for the golf course or office, but not so long (on me, at least) that it can't be left untucked for less formal occasions. And it must be a "luxury" shirt because the tape on the outside of the plastic box says so!

Excellent value, not too short
My husband is 5'11" and 200 pounds and typically wears a Large or X-Large (leaning more toward X-Large for waist, upper arms, and length). Based on the size chart, we got this in 2XL, and it fits perfectly. He has a long torso and likes to tuck in this style shirt, so length is often an issue, but not with this shirt. It is just the right length. It fits well around his chest, waist, and arms, too - just the right amount of looseness without looking sloppy. The fabric is not cotton; it is that sport material. It's just okay. We got the black, and it is like a heathered black or a super dark heathered gray. It almost looks like it has little metallic flecks in the photos, but in person, it doesn't look that way. Don't worry about it being flashy! He would never usually wear a 2XL, so I would say these run small and to size up 1-2 from your usual size. Most of all, though, follow the provided size chart.
