The Night He Came Home!

ÒI watched him for fifteen years, sitting in a room, staring at a wall; not seeing the wall, looking past the wall; looking at this night, inhumanly patient, waiting for some secret, silent alarm to trigger him off. Death has come to your little town, Sheriff. Now, you can either ignore it, or you can help me to stop it.Ó ÑDr. Sam Loomis, 1978

For decades, movie monsters had been men in silly rubber suits. In 1978, John CarpenterÕs ÒHalloweenÓ hit all the right buttons with audiences and led to a whole new genre: the slasherfilm. There had been a few slasher films in the past, such as ÒPsycho,Ó ÒPeeping Tom,Ó and a handful of others, but none really brought together all the elements of pure terror and adrenaline-pumping fear of Michael Myers vs. Laurie Strode in Haddonfield.

Trying to capture lightning in a bottle, there was a sequel. Then there was a wholly unrelated film, Halloween III, and then a return to the storyline of the first two films, but with a different lead character, and then it just started getting a little silly with cultists and reality TV shows. A reboot of the first film followed these films. Then the reboot was thrown out, and there was a sort of alternate timeline that only followed some of the original material, andÉ are you lost yet? Yeah, itÕs easy to get lost. ThatÕs one thing this book can help with.

The book covers all thirteen (so far) ÒHalloweenÓ movies. It explains the various timelines and reboots. Each film has a complete synopsis, including spoilers, so you can read along and get caught up even if you missed some of the films. Each one then has our commentary, opinions, and some trivia about each film.

Did you miss a few of these somewhere down the line? I did when they were released. But now IÕve seen them all. This is your chance to catch up on the whole series and make sense of the multiple timelines and reboots!

ÒI met him, 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met thisÉ six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, andÉ the blackest eyes Ð the DevilÕs eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realised that what was living behind that boyÕs eyes was purely and simplyÉ evil.Ó ÑDr. Loomis again

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5
