NEW YORK TIMES Editors' Choice

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic comes an impassioned critique of America's retreat from reason

We live in a time when the very idea of objective truth is mocked and discounted by the occupants of the White House. Discredited conspiracy theories and ideologies have resurfaced, proven science is once more up for debate, and Russian propaganda floods our screens. The wisdom of the crowd has usurped research and expertise, and we are each left clinging to the beliefs that best confirm our biases.

How did truth become an endangered species in contemporary America? This decline began decades ago, and in The Death of Truth, former New York Times critic Michiko Kakutani takes a penetrating look at the cultural forces that contributed to this gathering storm. In social media and literature, television, academia, and politics, Kakutani identifies the trends--originating on both the right and the left--that have combined to elevate subjectivity over factuality, science, and common values. And she returns us to the words of the great critics of authoritarianism, writers like George Orwell and Hannah Arendt, whose work is newly and eerily relevant.

With remarkable erudition and insight, Kakutani offers a provocative diagnosis of our current condition and points toward a new path for our truth-challenged times.

Actually is gigantic
Format: Paperback
Actually is very thick. This is a perfect gift. I will buy a box of these to hand out to my four grandsons and as gifts to other children in the future.

Lots to love, but pages are thin
Format: Paperback
This is a great little book with a variety of pictures and some nice short descriptions to stimulate conversation. My main problem with it is that the pages are thin and when my 5 year old used a marker on them, it bled through 3 pages. (These were not particularly potent markers; if anything they were all bit dry and worn out.) Use crayons and you should be fine.

3 year old twins and older children all loved this coloring book and learned from the stories.
Format: Paperback
I bought 5 of these coloring books for my grandchildren. They started home sunday school at my house last Sunday and we used these books for the twin 3yr old boys. They actually memorized that God created the Heavens and the Earth. That was our lesson 1. They enjoyed coloring the pages related to the story!. Success on day 1! We will use the coloring books for children aged 9-3 in future. Well worth it for us! Hope you enjoy!

Amazing
Format: Kindle
This was one of the most amazing stories of truth of God's love that will increase your faith with the substance that only he can provide. If I had the time I probably would've finish this book in one day! It also shows that you have to bind the strongman over an area in order to spiritually move forward and it can only be done through God's Holy Spirit and power!
