'Nuage', A Modern Sculpture by French Artist Yves Lohe (1947 – )

An exceptional and museum-quality modern sculpture titled 'Nuage' (Cloud) by French artist Yves Lohe (born 1947), a distinguished contemporary sculptor known for his sophisticated work in pâte de verre and bronze. This striking piece combines the translucent beauty of pâte de verre glass with the solid presence of cast bronze, creating a work that explores the interplay between transparency and opacity, lightness and weight, ethereal and earthly. The title 'Nuage' perfectly captures the sculpture's evocative character, suggesting the ephemeral beauty of clouds while embodying them in permanent materials. This signed work represents an excellent acquisition opportunity for collectors of contemporary French sculpture, pâte de verre art, or those seeking distinctive modern works that combine technical mastery with poetic vision.

Yves Lohe - Contemporary French Sculptor

Yves Lohe (born 1947) has established himself as an important contemporary French sculptor, particularly renowned for his sophisticated work combining pâte de verre glass with bronze and other materials. Working in the tradition of French glass artistry while bringing contemporary sensibilities, Lohe creates sculptures that demonstrate exceptional technical skill and artistic vision. His work has been exhibited internationally and collected by discerning collectors who appreciate the intersection of traditional craft techniques and contemporary sculptural expression. Lohe's sculptures are prized for their formal beauty, technical excellence, and the poetic resonance they achieve through material combinations and evocative titles.

'Nuage' - Poetic Title and Concept

'Nuage' (French for 'cloud') provides the perfect title for this sculpture, evoking the ephemeral, ever-changing beauty of clouds while paradoxically embodying them in permanent materials. Clouds represent transformation, lightness, dreams, and the boundary between earth and sky. The title invites viewers to see the sculpture not just as abstract form but as meditation on transience, beauty, and the artist's ability to capture fleeting phenomena in lasting materials. This poetic dimension adds depth to the work's formal and technical achievements, creating sculpture that engages both eye and imagination.

Pâte de Verre - Technical Mastery

Pâte de verre (French for 'glass paste') represents one of the most demanding and prestigious glass-making techniques. The process involves grinding glass into powder, mixing it with binding agents, placing it in molds, and firing at temperatures that fuse the glass particles without fully melting them. This technique creates distinctive translucent effects, rich colors, and sculptural possibilities impossible with other glass methods. Pâte de verre's labor-intensive nature and required expertise make works in this technique particularly valuable. Lohe's mastery of pâte de verre demonstrates exceptional technical skill and understanding of glass's expressive possibilities.

Cast Bronze - Solid Foundation

The sculpture's bronze elements provide solid, permanent foundation that contrasts beautifully with the pâte de verre's translucency. Bronze casting, an ancient technique perfected over millennia, requires understanding of metal properties, mold-making, and finishing. The combination of bronze and pâte de verre creates dialogue between materials - solid and translucent, opaque and transparent, heavy and light. This material contrast enhances the sculpture's conceptual resonance with its 'cloud' title, embodying the interplay between earthly permanence and ethereal transience.

Modern Sculpture - Contemporary Expression

This sculpture exemplifies contemporary French sculpture's sophisticated engagement with traditional craft techniques while maintaining thoroughly modern aesthetic sensibilities. The work's abstract or semi-abstract form, material combinations, and poetic title demonstrate contemporary artistic concerns while honoring centuries of French craft traditions in both glass and bronze. This synthesis of tradition and innovation characterizes the finest contemporary sculpture, creating works that honor the past while speaking to present-day viewers.

Form and Composition

The sculpture's specific form - whether suggesting cloud-like shapes, abstract organic forms, or other configurations - demonstrates Lohe's understanding of how three-dimensional form occupies and activates space. The interplay between the pâte de verre and bronze elements creates visual interest and invites viewing from multiple angles. The sculpture's proportions, balance, and overall presence demonstrate sophisticated sculptural intelligence and create work that commands attention while inviting contemplation.

Color and Light

The pâte de verre elements' translucency allows light to pass through, creating effects that change with lighting conditions and viewing angles. This interaction with light adds dynamic quality to the sculpture, ensuring it appears different throughout the day as natural light changes. The bronze elements' patina and surface treatment complement the glass's translucency, creating harmonious color relationships. This attention to how materials interact with light demonstrates Lohe's sophisticated understanding of sculpture's visual properties.

Scale and Presence

The sculpture's scale creates substantial presence while remaining suitable for domestic or corporate display. The size allows the material qualities and formal relationships to be fully appreciated while the work maintains intimate character appropriate for close viewing. This balance between presence and accessibility makes the sculpture suitable for various settings and collecting contexts.

Signed Work - Authentication

This sculpture bears Yves Lohe's signature, confirming its authenticity and providing clear attribution. Signed contemporary sculptures command premiums over unsigned examples, as the signature documents the artist's approval and ensures provenance. For collectors and investment purposes, the signature's presence is essential and significantly enhances value.

Investment Value and Collectibility

Contemporary sculptures by established artists working in prestigious techniques like pâte de verre and bronze represent solid investment opportunities. The combination of Lohe's reputation, the pâte de verre technique's prestige, the bronze casting's quality, the work's aesthetic and technical merits, and the signed authentication creates strong appeal among collectors of contemporary French sculpture, pâte de verre art, and modern decorative arts. As appreciation for contemporary craft-based sculpture grows, quality signed examples show consistent market performance.

French Sculptural Tradition

This sculpture connects to France's extraordinary sculptural traditions, from medieval stone carving through Rodin's revolutionary bronzes to contemporary glass art. French sculpture has consistently combined technical excellence with artistic vision, creating works that influence international art. Lohe's work honors this tradition while bringing contemporary perspectives, creating sculpture that is distinctly French while speaking to universal themes.

Display and Presentation

This sculpture deserves placement where its material qualities and formal beauty can be fully appreciated. Ideal locations include areas with natural light that reveals the pâte de verre's translucency, stable surfaces that support the sculpture's weight, and positions allowing viewing from multiple angles. The work suits both residential and corporate settings, working beautifully in contemporary interiors while adding sophistication to traditional spaces. Proper lighting dramatically enhances the sculpture's visual impact.

Cultural and Artistic Significance

This sculpture embodies contemporary French sculpture's sophisticated engagement with traditional craft techniques, the ongoing vitality of pâte de verre as artistic medium, and sculpture's capacity to create poetic resonance through material combinations and evocative titles. It represents the dialogue between tradition and innovation, craft and art, material and meaning that characterizes the finest contemporary sculpture.

Collecting Context

This sculpture appeals to collectors of contemporary French sculpture, pâte de verre art, bronze sculpture, modern decorative arts, and those seeking works combining technical excellence with poetic vision. It would enhance private collections, corporate holdings, or serve as centerpiece in interiors seeking distinctive contemporary sculpture that bridges craft traditions and modern artistic expression.

Sapphic Yearning at Its Best
Format: Paperback
4.5⭐️ rounded up Set in the same world as Rebekah Faubion’s debut THE LOVERS, we follow Cadence Connelly, park ranger and daughter of the enigmatic Madame Moira, as she finds out that her too-wild-to-be-tamed mother is getting married after only knowing the man for a few months. She travels home for the first time in years in an attempt to save the man from what she believes to be a con, only to find herself entranced by the man’s daughter, Sydney Sinclair. Sydney is also wildly suspicious of the engagement as she believed herself to be incredibly close with her father and it came as a complete surprise. The pair enter in a scheme to get to the bottom of the whirlwind engagement, but the chemistry between them may prove to be more of a distraction than they originally believed. It is not a secret that I was deeply obsessed with Rebekah Faubion’s debut and I’m happy to report that that love carries into her sophomore novel—no slump here! Returning to this very contemporary world that is coated in the mystical was like coming home. The love and care Rebekah gave her debut continues to shine as she tells Cadence and Sydney’s story and allowed me to immediately become attached to them. It’s clear from the start that these two women carry trauma from their childhood, but they have been wildly independent as they’ve grown up. The chemistry between them is constantly sizzling just under the surface and it is everything I could have asked for when I think of sapphic yearning. Cadence as a character stood out to me especially as a fellow daughter who felt like their mother controlled many aspects of her life. While our worlds are incredibly different, I felt every part of Cadence’s journey through the story—with the way she felt the need to run away and rebel against Moira to the eventual (if still slightly strained) acceptance of her behavior. If you’ve read THE LOVERS, you’ll be happy to see a few familiar faces return to the page as happy and in love as they were when we left them. I had a deep hope that we’d get a cameo or two, but it was still a pleasant surprise to actually see it happen. And the way Rebekah was able to weave them into the actual plot of this standalone story is masterful, allowing new readers and old alike to experience the story in much the same way. And, of course, we can’t not talk about Chicken. Chicken is perfect and wonderful and stole the show. He is living his best life and making us all fall in love with him from start to finish. We stan Chicken. Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher for free and have voluntarily written this review.

Tender, sexy, and a little magical in the best way
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I think I just found a new favorite author because The Sun and the Moon by Rebekah Faubion had me hooked. Cadence and Sydney’s parents suddenly get engaged after just a few months of dating and neither of them are thrilled. Cadence’s estranged mother is a well known psychic who once told her exactly how she’d meet her soulmate… and meeting Sydney feels way too familiar. Sydney’s close to her dad and skeptical of this fast moving relationship. The two of them team up to figure out what their parents are hiding, and the deeper they dig, the stronger the tension between them becomes. Oh and how can I forget the one bed scene I loved the partners-in-crime vibe, the bisexual rep, and the immediate chemistry between Cadence and Sydney. Their chemistry felt natural — flirty, sweet, and emotionally rich in a way that made me root for them instantly. The banter had me smiling, blushing and I loved how they challenged each other while still offering comfort and understanding. Plus? Sydney’s a pilot. Cadence is a park ranger. The vibes are IMMACULATE. ⭐️ 4.5 stars This book completely delivered. If you love queer romance with emotional depth, a little mystery, and characters that feel real, add this to your TBR immediately.

4-stars: 'The Sun and the Moon' by Rebekah Faubion
Format: Kindle, Format: Kindle
I enjoyed reading The Lovers last year and was eager to read Rebekah’s new book, The Sun and the Moon. Gorgeous covers always draw me in, and both books have stunning designs. After reading the synopsis, I knew I would enjoy this one. I love stories where opposites attract and soulmates are destined to meet. I loved getting to know Cadence and Sydney as they met at their parents’ engagement party. Cadence doesn’t have a close relationship with her mother, but she tries to find out if her mom is up to no good. She meets Sydney, whose father is marrying Cadence’s mother. Sydney is curious about her father’s quick engagement and agrees to help Cadence uncover the truth and possibly stop the wedding. As they spend time together, their undeniable connection grows, suggesting their meeting was fate. I enjoyed this Sapphic Romance and its engaging storyline. The chemistry between Cadence and Sydney was enthralling. I understood both characters’ skepticism about their parents’ wedding. Cadence’s concerns about her mother felt clear, and while investigating, she also becomes protective when it comes to her mother’s business. I understood Sydney, too, who simply wants to protect her father, whom she admires. Both struggle with their parents getting married at first, but ultimately become closer to each other and their parents as truths are revealed. The book focuses heavily on Cadence’s mother, sometimes overshadowing other elements. Still, I enjoyed the soulmates storyline between Cadence and Sydney. Overall, this book earns four stars from me, and I look forward to reading more by Rebekah Faubion. Single/Dual POV: Dual POV. Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you like Sapphic Romance with two FMCs who are opposites and destined to meet, I definitely recommend The Sun and The Moon. What to Expect: ✓Sapphic Romance ✓Opposites Attract ✓One Bed ✓Soulmates

Not for me
Format: Kindle
🔆Bookish Thoughts This one just didn’t work for me. I really struggled to connect with either of the FMCs, and I found the pacing incredibly slow. So much of the story focused on Cadence’s complicated relationship with her mom, and it became repetitive fast. I also had a hard time getting into the romance. The “destined to be together” angle felt forced, and there was a lot more internal monologue than actual connection on the page. And both Cadence and Sydney seemed emotionally immature. Honestly, I didn't like either FMC. The premise was really cute, but I think I was expecting more of a romcom vibe, especially with the whole reverse Parent Trap setup. But it ended up feeling dry, and I found myself tuning out and just not that interested. That said, if you’re into slow burns with a lot of emotional processing, this might be more your thing. 📅 Pub Date: August 12, 2025 Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

Cadence + Sydney
Format: Kindle
This book was so good. No flaws, I’m obsessed. The scheming parents, the family drama, the “forbidden” romance. All of it had me grasping for more. I love a good sapphic romance and this book did NOT disappoint!! The premise of this story was so compelling and I really felt for the main characters in their personal self-discovery journey as well as their familial relationship journey. It is pretty insta-love, but the background and actual plot make it so worth it. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sapphic romance with a little magical twist to it!
