A Roaring '20s Gatsby-Era story of the transformative power of women when they band together

Roaring Twenties. Kansas City. One woman's transformative journey of love, betrayal, and redemption.
Somewhere Still, a historical fiction book explores the Roaring Twenties through the eyes of a young woman coming of age in Kansas City and offers a unique window into the history and culture of the city at a turning point in its development. Denitta Ward, author of the Somewhere series, blends history and fiction to tell the story of one young woman's transformative journey of love, betrayal, and redemption.

From the day Jean Ball lands a job at the elegant Empire hotel, modeled on Kansas City's once-famed Baltimore Hotel, she quickly learns the secrets of the entitled class. Dazzled by a Roaring Twenties society on the cusp of radical change, this innocent young woman finds herself dancing, bobbing her hair, and falling for Elden Whitcomb, the handsome son of the wealthy hotel owner. The stakes rise when the Whitcombs' powerful secrets are revealed and loving Elden comes at a price - one that may be too high for Jean to pay.

Shattered and alone, Jean's in the battle of her life in a city alive with romance, smoky speakeasies, jazz music and scandal, but divided by race and class. With the help and encouragement of influential women, Jean may find what she has always needed, though her choices could echo through generations.

Denitta Ward uses historical sites and real events to explore Jean's transformation from an innocent young girl to a self-assured woman, making her way in a society in transition. Somewhere Still aims to give insight into 1920s Kansas City, a city on the cusp of significant change. During this time, the city's society women united to urge social advances, the jazz culture was born, baseball's famous Negro League was formed, and the city had a burgeoning Prohibition bootleg trade. Featured locations include Kansas City's Petticoat Lane, Swope Park, the Emily Bird Thayer Dry Goods Company, the Savoy Grill, and Wentworth Military Academy.

So far happy.
Size: One Size, Color: Glossy Nappa Black
As everyone has made clear, it holds credit cards very tight. Almost 3 weeks in & mine seems to be breaking in a little, but cards are still a bit difficult to remove. No complaints with money clip. One thing I thought was a dumb move on manufacturers part, was inside one of the card slots is a tag sewn into the seem. This makes things alot worse while trying to fit cards into all slots. The tag will catch on the cards & bunch up in the corner of the slot making things even tighter in that slot, plus all slots surrounding it. I was able to get a scissors in there enough to cut most of the tag out, without cutting the stitching itself....it made a big difference....enough to fit an extra card in & without it bulging up the wallet overall. Why would they feel it necessary to do this is beyond my pay grade. Its not like you can even see what the tag says until you cut it out.... I believe it was the name & logo....but Jesus, how unnecessary, & in the dumbest place one could possibly think of. Especially when EVERYONE comments on how excessively tight it is to fit cards in the slots & also be able to retrieve them with relative ease when needed. Overall I am happy with this wallet so far.... I'll be interested to see if it holds together over the long haul or if the stitching gives out in a year & has to be replaced. I will update this review as time progresses. UPDATE: Its almost to March 27 2023 & its been holding up great. No ripping or tearing stitching holding strong. Still holds cards really tight, but they are easier to remove.

Worth the money
I have tried other slim wallets but keep coming back to AlpineSwiss. Theirs are much better in construction and in material, and last extremely long. Much better than the cheaper alternatives. Consider paying a bit more but getting your moneys worth with these guys.
