"This is my favorite kind of history," writes Dick Haeberlin in "Southwestern American Literature," "the story of a person I did not know about before, one not famous but important anyway." And important she was, as this new Sunstone Press edition of "Nina Otero-Warren of Santa Fe" reconfirms. In many ways her life paralleled that of Santa Fe and New Mexico in the early years of the twentieth century. Born in 1881, Nina saw New Mexico change from a mostly rural territory of sheep and cattle ranches operated by a few Hispanic ricos, to become the 47th state in 1912 with increasing Anglo immigrant influences. Her own father was murdered by an Anglo, James Whitney, who disputed Manuel Otero's right to his land. Acre after acre was wrenched away from her family in the Anglo-dominated courts. But Nina viewed the change as inevitable and proceeded to make it work for her. She married an Anglo, Rawson Warren, divorced him after two years, declared herself a widow, and kept his name. Her hyphenated surname, Otero-Warren, opened doors for her in both cultures and enabled her to achieve most of her goals, which were varied and ambitious. Charlotte Whaley is editor emeritus of "Southwest Review," founder and publisher, with her late husband, of Still Point Press, former president of the Texas Gamma chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and secretary emeritus of PEN Texas. A devotee of New Mexico and Santa Fe, she has had a home in Las Dos for twenty-six years. She divides her time between Dallas and Santa Fe.Binding Type: Paperback

Super thick and soft
Wanted something pretty to put under a lounge chair on our new vinyl flooring. The rug is very thick and soft underfoot. I love the "look" of the irregular shape in the room! I have luxury vinyl flooring and put a "pad" between the rug and the floor to protect the floor "just in case." Plus, the chair on the rug is heavy, especially with someone sitting in it. So, I took the extra precaution. I've had this rug for a few weeks and absolutely LOVE it!

Very happy
I was cautious about buying a fur product sight unseen. There can be so many variations in what you can get. Have to say I'm very happy with everything about this beautiful sheepskin. I've had different kinds of natural fur rugs , including a 90 pelt skunk skin rug! This sheepskin is well made and put together. It's an even soft white color, and only very faint fur/hide scent (to be expected) Gonna get a 2nd one and hope it's exactly the same.

Great Rug @ great price
I really wanted a large sheep skin rug that wasn't fake for my bedroom but didn't want to pay the high price. This was the best price i could find for the size i wanted. It worked out great! No weird smells, very fluffy, nice light color, and good size.

It's a good looking rug for the price!
The size is almost true to measurements which is super great when ordering a natural product! The backing is very nicely finished! No smell! Only comment on my 4 stars would be quality it's just ok, some spots are really soft and some are more ruff as if it was not top quality sheep, and a few random un brushed hair, beside that the color is super it's a creamy light yellow tint (more cream though) for the price I totally recommend this rug.
