New Vinyl Record - Surfbort - Keep On Truckin'

The day has finally arrived! LA punk superstars Surfbort will release their new raucously outrageous and much anticipated album, Keep on Truckin on vinyl! This is a record filled with boisterous humor, deep emotion, political commentary as well as ramshackle punk rock spirit. The album was produced by multi-platinum award winning songwriter and Grammy nominated producer, Linda Perry. In an age of division where presentation has trumped content, where billionaires blast into space as the wealth gap increases and the entire society teeters on the spectrum of addiction, Keep on Truckin' reminds us that we're all geniuses and idiots, and that love, humor, magic, and the human sitting next to you are the only antidote to the capitalist hellscape, says singer Dani Miller. Guitarist Alex Kilgore chimed in that ‚the album is comprised of 12 songs for a new world, a call to arms to blast love: a panacea to the corporate hellscape we live in." Surfbort is releasing a limited edition blue vinyl in collaboration with Record Store Day on April 23rd, 2022. Tracks from the album received strong support from Apple Music heavyweight Zane Lowe as well as W1LCO on Apple Music 1. The music video for leading single,FML‚ features acclaimed comedian and actor, Fred Armisen. Singles FML and Big Star have been featured on massive Apple and Spotify playlists such as The New Sound, New Rock and New Music Daily. Surfbort cracked the top 5 at new music on specialty radio with "Big Star" which will also be featured in the hit Netflix series, The Serpent. The album is resonating in the skate-punk scene and caught the attention of female pro-skater, World Cup Champion, and Olympian Lizzie Armanto, who makes her directorial debut and appears in the video for fan-favorite,Lot Lizard. Self-proclaimed Surfbort fan, Tony Hawk (needs no introduction) stars in their upcoming video for Open Your Eyes. The band has an upcoming US and UK tour to support the new album and share this incredible body of work with a global live audience. "The Spirit of Bikini Kill, Pussy Galore, Patti Smith and X"--The Guardian (UK) "A glorious stumble through the gamut of emotions. "- DIY Magazine "One of New York‚Äôs last (only?) great punk bands." - W Magazine Album reviews DIY, Punknews, New Noise Magazine, Hollywood Life

Influential and Insightful
Frantz Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth is an important document in the history of imperialism capturing the state of the Algerian revolution and the struggle for independence in the Third World at a crucial time. The year was 1961, and the book was published just before Fanon's premature death. Algeria was a year away from independence. The Congo had just achieved a travesty of independence. The Cuban revolution was still fresh. Fanon was born in Martinique but was fully committed to the Algerian cause by the end of his life. His insights into the pitfalls threatening newly-independent nations have proved to be uncannily accurate. His voice is of his time and ahead of his time. I would recommend this book to those wanting to learn more about the Algerian War and to those curious about the huge effect of this book on the leftists of the 1960s.

A SIXTIES CLASSIC WE HAVE MOVED ON FROM OR BACK OF/
Format: Paperback
i am 90 years old. i was a student in the 60s but i had already served in the military so i was already in my 30s. Which meant with a wife and twins i was more concerned with earning a living and finishing my doctorate than participating BUT it was a time when we swung one way as a nation and we were part of the post war swing of the world. The world had developed empires, WW1 began their downfall, ww2 pretty much finished the rest BUT it opened the door for new imperialism. On one hand colonialism melted away. The greatest empire ever, the British faded to legend and an island itself breaking up. American imperialism sprouted along with Soviet. And now China and Russia. One old model, Russia, one new model China. But the world i cyclical not progressive so China may become another imperial power. Fanon is an antidote as are other writers of the 60s so good to see new editions. Many rebels are now out of print. History is always ignored but it is always present.

Brings history to life
Format: Paperback
Got this book as a read aloud before traveling to London. We did a tour of the Tower of London and used the map in this book, marking off the different parts we walked theough- talking about which parts were the setting of different scenes in the book. Reading this gave my kids a real love and personal connection to the Tower. Cliffhanger endings to different chapters. My 9 and 6 year old lived it. My 4 year old couldn't keep up.
