Death is an inevitable fact of life. Throughout the centuries, humanity has sought to understand this sobering thought through art and ritual. The theme of memento mori informs medieval Danse Macabre, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, Renaissance paintings of dissected corpses and "anatomical Eves," Gothic literature, funeral effigies, Halloween, and paintings of the Last Judgment. Deceased ancestors are celebrated in the Mexican Day of the Dead, while the ancient Egyptians mummified their dead to secure their afterlife.

A volume of unprecedented breadth and sinister beauty, Death: A Graveside Companion examines a staggering range of cultural attitudes toward death. The book is organized into themed chapters: The Art of Dying, Examining the Dead, Memorializing the Dead, The Personification of Death, Symbolizing Death, Death as Amusement, and The Dead After Life. Each chapter begins with thought-provoking articles by curators, academics, and journalists followed by gallery spreads presenting a breathtaking variety of death-related imagery and artifacts. From skulls to the dance of death, statuettes to ex libris, memento mori to memorabilia, the majority of the images are of artifacts in the astonishing collection of Richard Harris and range from 2000 BCE to the present day, running the gamut of both high and popular culture.

It's a good look.
Color: Black/Brown/White, Color: Black/Brown/White
Very nice watch. I was complemented twice in 3 days. It fits well, looks great. I'm trying to look at screens less and teach my kids how to tell time on an analog clock face. 4 stars because, while the strap on the outside looks like it's a nylon/fabric wrist band, the inside is leather. My wrist has gotten pretty sweaty as a result. And there is a VERY audible 'tick' involved with this watch. I'm a contractor and have moderate hearing loss, but I've noticed the tick when I'm sitting quietly in my living room. If a ticking clock drives you nuts, I would not recommend. Most of the time, I am in a locale so noisy, it doesn't matter. They want a jeweler to change the battery, which, as a guy who fixes stuff, I don't love, but I've got some time before I think about that. No pun intended. I'm happy with this purchase. Good for the jobsite or a hot date with my wife.

Most Dependable and Accurate Watch I Have Ever Owned
Color: Black/Brown/White
I bought this watch in August 2022. It is now January 2026. I have worn it almost every day and every night. I mow my yard with it on, wear it for funerals and weddings but always take it off when taking a shower. I have owned many watches in my 77 years including a Rolex but will say this is the finest and most accurate watch I have ever owned. It is not fancy nor flashy but dependable and keeps PERFECT time. It is a timex and I am proud to wear it. My only recommendation is they enlarge the window showing the calendar day and wish they would include the day of the year. Thank you. A+

Second watch died faster than the first!
Color: Black/Brown/White
Now I have bought two of these. On the first, indiglo died after one year (battery otherwise fine). On the second, it only lasted 9 months. I’m done. On the first, suspecting the battery was prematurely drained, I took it to the jeweler to get a new battery. He said there was nothing wrong with the battery. I was within the warranty period for the second watch. When I inquired, I was told that it meant shipping the watch overseas for about 3 months to be fixed. Wow. So in reality, it's a disposable item that is not likely to work as long as warranted, much less several years. Time to find another brand.
