The active ingredient in milk thistle extract which is called Silymarin exerts activity by decreasing blood sugar level and increasing insulin sensitivity. Mainly, Silymarin possess peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) agonist properties. PPARγ is the molecular target of Thiazolidinediones, which are used clinically as insulin sensitisers to lower blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients.
Olive leaf extract on the other hand has also been subject to clinical studies that examined its affect on sugar levels. Research suggests that it may help the pancreas produce 28% more insulin, while improving the sensitivity insulin receptors by 15%!
