The image of Sparta, and the Spartans, is one dyed indelibly into the public consciousness: musclebound soldiers with long hair and red cloaks, bearing shiny bronze shields emblazoned with the Greek letter lambda. 'This is Sparta ', bellows Leonidas on the silver screen, as he decides to lead his 300 warriors to their deaths at Thermopylae. But what was Sparta? The myths surrounding Sparta are as old as the city itself. Even in antiquity, Sparta was a unique society, considered an enigma. The Spartans who fought for freedom against the Persians called themselves 'equals' or peers, but their equality was reliant on the ruthless exploitation of the indigenous population known as helots. The Spartans' often bizarre rules and practices have the capacity to horrify as much they do to fascinate us today. Athenian writers were intrigued and appalled in equal measure by a society where weak or disabled babies were said to have been examined carefully by state officials before being dumped off the edge of a cliff. Even today their lurid stories have shaped our image of Sparta; a society in which cowards were forced to shave off half their beards, to dress differently from their peers, and who were ultimately shunned to the extent that suicide seemed preferable. Equally appalling to us today is the brutal krypteia, a Spartan rite of passage where teenagers were sent into the countryside armed with a knife and ordered to eliminate the biggest and most dangerous helots. But the truth behind these stories of the exotic other can be hard to discover, lost amongst the legend of Sparta which was even perpetuated by later Spartans, who ran a thriving tourist industry that exaggerated the famed brutality of their ancestors. As Andrew Bayliss explores in this book, there was also much to admire in ancient Sparta, such as the Spartans' state-run education system which catered even to girls, or the fact that Sparta was almost unparalleled in the pre-modern world in allowing women a clear voice, with no fewer than forty sayings by Spartan women preserved in our sources. This book reveals the best and the worst of the Spartans, separating myth from reality.Binding Type: Hardcover

Amazing for sensitive babies
This lotion is amazing!! My baby girl has extremely sensitive skin nothing worked for her and other well known brands kept creating irritation for her. Her pediatrician recommended this brand and it truly soothes her skin with no irritation, moistures beautifully all day long and has a light refreshing scent! It’s a must have for babies that are extra sensitive! Pairs well with the body wash as well.

The best foundation!
Style: Refill, Color: Golden Glow, Style: Refill, Color: Golden Glow
I recently tried the Jane Iredale makeup powder foundation and I have to say, it's absolutely amazing! This foundation has quickly become my go-to for achieving a flawless and natural-looking complexion.
One of the things I love about this powder foundation is its lightweight. It feels very light on the skin and allows it to breathe, which is perfect for those who prefer a more natural and comfortable makeup look. It doesn't feel heavy or cakey at all, even after hours of wear.
The coverage of this foundation is also impressive. It provides just the right amount of coverage to even out my skin tone and conceal any imperfections, while still allowing my skin to look like skin. It doesn't settle into fine lines or emphasize dry patches, giving me a smooth and radiant finish.
Another great feature of this foundation is its long-lasting power. It stays put throughout the day, even in humid weather or during physical activities. I don't have to worry about it melting off or fading, which is a huge plus for me.
I use the Jane D2O spray prior to putting on the powder and a final spritz after applying to set.
I also appreciate the fact that Jane Iredale powder foundation is made with high-quality and skin-friendly ingredients. It is free from harsh chemicals and irritants, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I'm not compromising the health of my skin while wearing it.
Overall, I feel Jane Iredale foundation is a game-changer. I highly recommend it to anyone!

The best foundation!!!
Style: Refill, Color: Golden Glow
10/10 powder foundation. If you’re on the fence, just do it. I have used this product since 2014 and haven’t ever bothered to try and find anything better. There’s simply no need. I’ve used the color Golden Glow almost every time, and it has always managed to match my skin throughout all the seasons. It is lightweight but full coverage. It’s magic. I mostly wear this on its own, with just moisturizer as a base. It’s so easy to apply with a large brush, and run out the door feeling like you have a full face of makeup on. It does pair beautifully with my liquid foundation for when I’m looking for maximum coverage. The price point is fair in my opinion. Each refill last me about 6 months. You do have to purchase the compact case which is an addition $25 but that’s a one time fee. I have never been happier or purchased a skincare product more frequently than this one. You seriously won’t regret it.

Flawless Full Coverage
Style: Refill, Color: Warm Silk
My absolute FAVORITE foundation for anyone with extremely oily skin. Honestly, this foundation is great for all skin types. The clean ingredients are a huge plus. I have tried every oil control makeup combination possible over the past two plus decades that I’ve worn makeup. I can’t get over how amazingly flawless and silky smooth this product makes my skin look. It’s lightweight yet 100% full coverage foundation. I live in the most humid climate possible and appreciate the fact that I’m not having to reapply more powder anytime I step outside for more than five minutes. After using this powder for the last few years I realized that I needed to make a change in my products and have slowly started purchasing more and more Jane Iredale products. I cannot recommend this powder foundation enough for anyone who has oily skin and wants a full coverage foundation that looks and feels natural!!!

Simplicity
Style: Refill, Color: Golden Glow, Style: Refill, Color: Golden Glow
All time favorite powder of 15 years 🫶 doesn't clog pores, stays on well all day, and is smooth to apply. A little goes a long way with a moisturizer and toner. Hope to see the pad applicators included in the refills in the near future, I used a teardrop sponge that worked great to cover pores and even tone. I didn't cover my cheek bones to allow natural pigment. Thanks for the wonderful quality over the years 🤗
