This book is a classic in the field of popular science. Standard reading since the 1930s, it is one of the few historeis of chemistry to concentrate on the lives of the great chemists. Through these dramatic and human stories, it gives an authoritative and entertaining account of the great discoveries and advances in this scientific field. After many printings in three previous editions, this book has been newly revised by the author for this fourth edition. Beginning with Trevisan and his lifelong search for the "philosopher's stone," the author narrates the lives and discoveries of such towering figures as Paracelsus and his chemical treatment of disease; Priestley looking for phlogiston and finding oxygen and carbon dioxide, Lavoisier creating a new language of chemistry; Dalton and his Atomic Theory; Avogadro and the idea of molecules, Mendeleeff arranging the table of elements under his Periodic Law; the Curies isolating radium; Thomson discovering the electron; Moseley and his Law of Atomic Numbers; Lawrence and the construction of the cyclotron; and more. Probably the most dramatic chapter in the book, the account of the development of nuclear fission, ends the story of chemistry at its most monumental achievement. A final chapter discusses some of the consequences of nuclear fission, the discovery of nuclear fusion, and the recent work with subatomic particles. Bernard Jaffe is the author of many other science books and several science textbooks. Upon the original publication of this book, Mr. Jaffe received the Francis Bacon Award for the Humanizing of Knowledge. The American Chemical Society's History of Chemistry Division honored him in 1973 with its Dexter Award for "distinguished achievement in the history of chemistry."

Finally a Toy My Aggressive Chewer Can’t Destroy
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark
My dog is an extremely aggressive chewer, and finding toys that last more than a few minutes has always been a challenge. Most toys are destroyed almost immediately, but this one has held up incredibly well. He chews on it constantly, and it still hasn’t been destroyed!

A Green Hard Plastic Sea Creature? Chew Toy
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark
This is a sturdy chew for my 40 lb retriever who is 9 months old. BUT after she has been chewing on it there are sharp edges which hurt my fingers when she wants me to throw it. It is strong and she enjoys it, so she can continue as long as she wants but, If it cuts her tongue or mouth it’s gone.

Strongest squeak toy for aggressive chewer
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark
I have been through so many toys for my aggressive super chewer pit bull puppy. He has shredded the bark box super chewer toys and most super chewer toys. Wet have had this toy for over a month and he still lives it! The squeaker odds in the middle of the toy and impossible to tear out and it still squeaks! This has been a very impressive toy.

Great toy for a very active chewer
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark, Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark
My Pomsky who is 9 months has destroyed every toy we’ve gotten him so far and he LOVES this one. He took to it right from the box and hasn’t let it leave his side since. It’s a very durable, hard, chew resistant material and I have a feeling it’s going to last him a long time. Highly recommend! His smile says it all 😊

Durability
Color: Green, Pattern Name: Hammerhead Shark
I have a lab puppy and she LOVES to chew and tear anything that she can up. I bought this being a little bit hesitant by some of the reviews but I will say she has not torn out the squeaker yet,. And it’s pretty loud too (it’s been almost two weeks) and the plastic is pretty durable. The only negative I have to say is the plastic does it sharp ( I’ve almost cut myself on it) but that doesn’t seem to affect her. So overall I’d say this is a great product if your dog needs something durable yet chewable.
