Soundsmith NORMA Moving Iron CartridgeThe Soundsmith Norma is a medium output version of the incredible Aida high output cartridge. If your phonostage has a fixed gain setting between 48dB 58dB, no longer is there any fear of overloading with a high output MM cartridge or having to ramp up the volume with a low output MC type. The Aida cartridge by The Soundsmith (formerly SMMC1) is a Stereophile A RATED cartridge. That is the "price is no object" range. Where are we in the price range of

The Soundsmith Norma is a medium-output version of the incredible Aida high-output cartridge. If your phonostage has a fixed gain setting between 48dB-58dB, no longer is there any fear of overloading with a high output MM cartridge or having to ramp up the volume with a low output MC type.

The Aida cartridge by The Soundsmith (formerly SMMC1) is a Stereophile A RATED cartridge. That is the "price is no object" range. Where are we in the price range of those cartridges? At the bottom. There isn't anyone even close to our price. Did Michael Fremer take some flack for doing that? You bet. How did he respond?? he said - "I put it in that group - because it deserved to BE in that group".

We build it with love and respect for your hard earned dollars. Here is the "micro-manufacturing" reality:

All top end cartridges from all manufacturers are handmade. The real issue is that when you are manufacturing something so tiny, that has to perform so well, that all of them are NOT the same. If you don’t see this statement from other manufacturers, then this is a "secret" they don’t want to share, and quite understandably so.

So.....what does Soundsmith do??

We carefully hand build each and every cartridge, test them, and keep accurate records by serial number of their performance. Those that meet or exceed specifications are sold. But, there are always a few that don't measure well. What do we do with them? We don't sell them. We break them down and re-use some parts that can be used again. Does this cost real money? You bet. But what it does do is this.....the ones that DO pass our stringent testing out-perform many cartridges selling for two, three, four, or even five times the price. Are we unabashedly proud of our hand-made cartridges??

YES.

Some ask:

"Moving Iron Cartridges better?? I thought that moving COIL types are the best??"

Our cartridges overturn the myth that moving coil cartridges are the only path towards perfection. After all, what is the accepted “advantage” of moving coil cartridges? Low effective moving mass, right? Well, we've got less. Much less. And if you understand EFFECTIVE moving mass, Less IS more. Why is that good? Because when you lower the moving system mass, it’s easier to control. If it’s easier to control, the stylus can stay in better contact with the groove walls. That’s good because if you can’t stay in contact with the groove walls, you can’t hear what’s on the record.

Is a high gain moving coil preamp required? No. "Aida” is designed to be used with a Moving Magnet preamp. No "step-up" transformers. No finicky multi-stage ultra high gain preamp required. Less is more here, too.

Accessible, fun, and exciting.
Format: Kindle
While this book is aimed at younger readers (it includes, for examples, expletives like "Zooks!" and "Zounds!"), I Escaped The Tower of London is a neat historical fiction novella with taught pacing that readers of all ages can enjoy. Using the real-life account of John Gerard as inspiration, the authors have created a young boy who escapes from the Tower of London while attempting to aid Princess Elizabeth during Queen Mary's reign. It's exciting, it fast-paced, and it even has a pleasant message about doing the right thing — even when the right thing is hard to do. It's packed with a hodgepodge of images (most of them public domain, but also a few original pieces) that add to the experience. And the end includes a brief lesson on the historical figures involved. Despite the source material, you shouldn't worry if you (or your young ones) are squeamish; the main character sidesteps the torture and there's very little violence. All in all, quite a good read. Very accessible, surprisingly fun and exciting.

I have bought all of the books in this series for my nephew and he LOVES them. I get an email whenever a new one is coming out and I can buy it (which I always do) if I would like. It makes it so easy to keep current on the series.

wow!
Format: Kindle
What an amazing story that tells about history from the perspective of a kid named Ben that was pretty much forced (but was thankful for the work) to work with coal in the Tower of London, to find out Princess Elizabeth was arrested and sent to the same tower. The plot thickens as he helps her escape. He was met with many challenges, but his best friend Tim helped him always, what a faithful friend! I absolutely love and adore this story because it’s based on history and real life facts, these things actually happened! But when you read it, the author has written it so well it almost sounds like a fantasy! I can’t wait to read more, it’s such a great book, I give it 5 stars but really it deserves 10! Highly recommend!

Don't let this great middle grade book escape you.
Format: Paperback
I am an Anglophile and love the history of England. This book was an incredible read and fed my addiction fully with Renaissance England inspired history and fiction featuring Ben, a 15 year of commoner and an accidental hero who finds himself a prison let working the Tower’s dreadful jail. This spry has short chapters that will appeal to children with a short attention span, and the storyline like the other installment feature children using real life problem solving skills as they help others. This is an overall great read and highly recommended.
