De Champagne :

Goudgele kleur met groene reflecties. Dynamisch, rijk en romig. Het boeket wordt gedomineerd door geel fruit (nectarine) en toont licht zuur door kenmerken van citrusvruchten (gekonfijte citroen), daarna komen de rijpere tonen afkomstig van het rijpingsproces die het mooie kenmerken van de tijd geven: nuances van gebak, gebakken appel, tarte tatin en licht geroosterde cacaobonen. Volle en sappige aanzet. Een heerlijke verfrissende sappigheid die typisch is voor champagne: tegelijkertijd rijk, fris, licht en teder; en altijd de mooie frisheid in de afdronk.

Het verhaal van het champagnehuis.

De cuvées van Maison Louis Roederer zijn geboren uit de geduldige confrontatie met de elementen, uit een ontmoeting van talenten, uit een wetenschap van evenwichten, uit een resistente en genereuze druif, geworteld in het land van Champagne, zo wordt
de wijn geboren.

De manier waarop we bij Louis Roederer de wijnstokken bewerken en de nodige zorg
op elk perceel toepassen is er om rekening te houden met de zeer verschillende bodemprofielen in de Champagnestreek.

In 1845 besloot Louis Roederer om 15 ha aan te kopen in de Grand Cru van Verzenay. Het idee, vreemd in een tijd waarin druiven van weinig waarde waren, is om wijnboer te worden om de ontwikkeling van zijn jaargangen beter te kunnen beheersen. Sindsdien komen alle jaargangen van Louis Roederer uitsluitend van eigen wijnstokken, wat uniek is in de Champagne. De zoektocht naar de diversiteit van terroirs, jaargangen, percelen, druivensoorten, ... true Climats, in de Bourgondische zin van het woord, wordt duidelijk voor Maison Louis Roederer. Vandaag blijft dit beleid een essentiële voorwaarde voor de evolutie van het huis.

In 2013 beslaat het wijngaardgebied van Louis Roederer 240 ha bestaande uit 410 percelen.

Een nauwkeurige selectie en een zogenaamde "plot"-vinificatie zorgen voor respect voor de oorsprong, de traceerbaarheid van de druiven en een perfecte kennis van het fruit van bijna elke rij wijnstokken. Ze bieden ook de kans om het natuurlijke evenwicht van elk perceel te behouden. Zo wordt de wijnstok beschermd tegen elke invloeden: elk van onze wijnen geeft natuurlijk het beste van zichzelf.

This is a book that I challenge all my white friends to read, no matter where you stand on the spectrum of confronting white privilege and systemic racism. Michael Eric Dyson delivers a powerful, engaging, personal, informational, inspiring sermon that’s essential at this moment in time when racial division is especially high. I urge you to read with an open heart and mind, to set aside your discomfort and listen to Dyson’s plea for white Americans to reckon with the harsh truths of racism. Dyson is an ordained minister, so what better way to present this than as a sermon. He divides it into multiple sections: in “Hymns of Praise,” he cleverly shares hymns in the form of rap lyrics; in “Scripture Reading,” he quotes Martin Luther King Jr.; in the main sermon, he addresses whiteness specifically (including white innocence, white fragility, and white privilege) and then segues into a section about what it’s like to be black in America. Following that is “Benediction,” one of my favorite parts: in it he offers practical suggestions for what white people can do to make things better. The whole thing is incredibly current and topical, with commentary on Black Lives Matter, the recent election and Donald Trump’s rise to power. For white people who seek to understand more about racism and white privilege in America (and really, that should be all of us), this is the book to read. It was literally written for us.

Dr. Dyson explains racial concepts in easy to hear language and specifically targets white folks. As a white person, I have learned so much from Dr. Dyson through this book. I believe every white person should read this book. I also had the privilege to hear Dr. Dyson speak at my university, and his spoken words and written words carry the same passion and energy. Truly this book is one of a kind. This book really is a sermon to white america, I doubt most people of color would gain as much from his words. Dr. Dyson uses mostly black and white language, and addresses issues about whiteness and how it permeates our society and upholds racism. Anyone could read and enjoy this book, but white folks (especially the white people who don’t think they’re racist) need to read it.
