Description:
'A fascinating catalogue, torqued around the notion of a film critic watching moving images by day and then focussing on still ones at night' -- Irish Art Review

In 2004 the British Museum received a bequest of 211 modern and contemporary prints and drawings from the influential film critic Alexander Walker (1930-2003). Undoubtedly one of the most important bequests in recent years, the acquisition of these works has transformed and significantly expanded the Museum's collection of modern and contemporary Western graphic art.

Walker was born in Portadown, Northern Ireland but spent most of his career in London, writing weekly film reviews for the Evening Standard for over 40 years. He also wrote a number of highly successful books about film including the ground-breaking 1969 publication Sex in the Movies, a trilogy of books about the British film industry and numerous biographies of directors and actors including Stanley Kubrick, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Sellers.

Walker's collecting began tentatively in the early 1960s but gained in momentum as his confidence grew and his disposable income increased due to the success of his books. In a letter to a fellow collector in 1996, Walker wrote 'Audrey goes on selling strongly and has enabled me to buy some things I could hardly have afforded a few years ago: a beautiful Matisse etching ..., a rare print by Morandi ... and a marvellous woodcut by ... Vija Celmins'. He lived with his collection around him, using every inch of space in his modest London apartment including the walls of his bathroom and kitchen.

Great shirts! I prefer them over much, more expensive shirts!
Size: X-Large, Color: Lemon Yellow
Nice fitting shirt for the cost. Better than most that I’ve purchased for 2-3 times the cost. I prefer these to my Lacoste or Lands End long sleeved shirts! They look/wear much nicer after dry cleaning versus machine washing. I’ve bought five of them now!

Measurements just didn't add up.
Size: X-Large, Color: Sky Blue
Quality of the shirt was nice but the measurements did not add up. I wear a 17 1/2 neck and 36/37 or 37/38 sleeve. I ordered an XL and the sleeves were a little to short and the neck was way to big. Could never wear a tie with this shirt. So going up in size wasn't an option because of the neck. The next size up that had longer sleeves was a 3X, not happening. So if I went down in size the sleeves still would have been to short and the shirt would have been to tight. If the shirt fits you then you have a good shirt at a great price with lots of colors.

True oxford, comfortable, good fit, iron
Size: Large, Color: Light Grey
Great clean-cut, casual shirt. Material is thick as you should expect for a true oxford shirt, even with the stretch/elastane. Good fit, sleeves arent overly long. You’ll probably need to iron it. Overall very happy with purchase.

Amazon Essentials competes well with other store brands
Very Nice and comfortable shirt, on the thicker side and is slightly blue, baby blue perfect in fall winter might be a little thick for summer. the buttons and stitching all seem well done for the price. The size was true and fit great, the big tall size worked great, the shirt does not seem to wrinkle easily since it is thicker
